Mulberry takes us to the British Countryside for Autumn/Winter 2014. This season Mulberry's ad campaign is set within the beautiful, idlic landscapes of the British Countryside, the Ready-to-wear collection and luxury leather goods are showcased by no other than the model icon of the moment Cara Delevingne.
Not only is it refreshing to see a brand like Mulberry stay true to its heritage but it so inspiring to see how a brand can reinvent new fresh products by taking key inspiration through embraced the rich oaks, misty greys, deep greens and intense oxblood, from the mystery of the highlands to the lush rolling hills of Mulberry's home in Somerset.
The fact that some sort of computer technically device has not left my finger tips over the past few days, due to the buzz of menswear fashion week, it is not so strange that I woke up this morning feeling compelled to design some random fashion illustrations. When I get this urge to design, my usually process of designing garments start by sourcing my inspiration, creating boards, sketching design illustration and transfer through to photoshop or illustrator. But today I wanted to take a new/old approach by taking it back to basics, even through normally I always use the hand drawn technique, I wanted to change the outcome of my sketches by creating that sketchy feel to my designs and illustrations that I believe can only be achieve through hand drawing.
As I knew the approach and look I wanted to achieve with my illustrations, I began to research the internet looking at different designer illustration technique. Through this process I came across many different inspirational images and videos but the one that captured my attention and emulated my initial idea was from a video I came across from SHOWstudio of J.W Anderson sketching his collection ideas down. Although this video is an oldie and shows his design illustrations of his Spring/Summer 2013 line-up...... It captures the essences of the process I want to achieve and shows the usage of using basic tools such as Pro Markers and how this can impact on your illustrations. For people who know me! I am quite a simple man, I don't ask for much of life... although people who know me would say other wise hahaha! But finally the thing that I thought would be impossible has now become possible, Due to one genius london underground designer Bobby Abley with his Spring/Summer 2015 menswear collection. The menswear designer has merged two of my pleasures in life together "Fashion" and my favourite Disney movie "The Little Mermaid". How I adore this seasons line-up by Bobby Abley for S/S2015, he has created a capsule collection with elements styled around a lux sports wear feel, with embroidered prints based on the iconic, adorable characters such as Ariel, Sebastian, Ursula and her side kick eels Flotsam and Jetsam from my beloved childhood disney movie "The Little Mermaid". To make this collection absolute perfection in my eyes, would be to add Flounder the fish, that would of just put the pearl inside the oyster hehehe! Here is some of my latest design work for my final project this year!. I became inspired by the theme of "Desert Elegance" for Spring/Summer 2014 The concept behind this theme is to combine relaxed 19070s styling with abstract North African decoration for an elegant nomadic look, in line with the Neo-Geo macro trend. I wanted to design a collection of woman's wear clothing with a twist on what i have seen for this trend previously, instead on focusing on print I wanted to take a more relaxed approach focusing on clean silhouettes and tailoring, leading into a more formal evening gowns with a feminine feel. I wanted these designs to capture my inspiration of various desert landscapes that I had been looking at, the movement of the wind blowing across these beautiful landscapes.
I thought I would show you some of my work that I have been working on over the last month in university. This project was very free range and I was able to design under my own label "Anthony Yassin Couture"
I designed a range of women's evening wear garments that will be made to measure. The range was inspired by two exhibitions that I visited "Valentino: Master of Couture" at Summerset House and the "Hollywood Costumes" at the V&A. I was so inspired by these exhibitions that I based my concept on old hollywood glamour, I wanted to design a collection around this theme, with pieces such as the little black dress and cocktail dresses. All of this would be infused by couture fashion design and fabrics, with embroidery an surface detail like hand beading. I wanted to use key elements from this concept to see the clear link in my designs, such as colour and fabric but most importantly silhouette. But i really wanted to create something new with a twist and bring this theme up to date and modern for Autumn/Winter 2014.
FANTASTIC!"Burberry Prorsum" really laid on a beautifully simply wilder collection for Autumn/Winter 2013, entitled "Trench Kisses". Keeping true its truly british heritage, by opening with traditional trench coat, But this season giving it a updated modern twist by using a semi-transparent "Sheen Fabric on this staple garment and adding a infusion of colour with the Ruby wine pallet. As the collection carried on prancing down the runway this delightful "Sheen"quality seamed to keep on popping up in different pieces of outfits.
However Christopher Bailey still seamed to have full control of the brands identity keeping it true to what Burberry stands for with colour and silhouettes, but on the other hand pushing it another direction bring something new and interesting to this long lasting label by adding transparent glossy numbers, eye catching metallic metal details with belts and collars and to finish of wild prints like leopard spots and love heart prints.
Again Burberry continued to push the boundaries of its social media hype and opened its doors and broadcast the show as it was happening to the entire world.
I don't know what has took me so long to discover this illustrations! But now that I have, I think I've fell in love all over again.
Just browsing through some fashion illustration Blogs and I came across this amazing drawings of eight "Disney Princesses" I didn't think they could become more magical or beautiful.... But OH YES! fashion has given them a little make over and brought them bang up to date by gracing them with their own Vogue Front Cover. Giving them a sense of style that fits in to the modern day world that makes up the fashion industry, designing each of them an new up dated look on these previous outfit.
